Asia moved gracefully on her father's festive day,

    Despite misery gnawing at her, and wounds;

And sang of her love for him, and let herself forget

For a moment the world of hurt and lamentation.

Confidences, and from Hafiz, over the goblets.

And she wished to single him out with gifts,

From what was available to her, and what was not.

How many stars she has, shining with

    Inspiration, ever-abiding, for a keen-sighted mind!

How much song in her air is loved

For all time, worthy of his song-filled celebration!

How many precious things in her land have remained

    Hidden, worthy of these celebrations!

How many pearls in her sea are worthier

Of his love than a scepter or a sash!

How many treasures her magnificent monuments hold,

    Gleaming in the morning's sunrise!

All of them yearn to come to

Him, with the longing of hearts and souls.

All these, and others, did not seem to

Asia an emblem of rapture and delight.

She did not find them equal to the meaning of

Gifts, or to a meaning she held unspoken,

For the one who kept struggling to uplift

Her, and is still in the bitterest of struggles,

Tirelessly yearning for her unity in

Glory, through knowledge that gives might before arms.

So she folded inward over anguish in her mind,

With a prayer for him, and over her wounds.
