    فباركها ثم استحال شعارا

    And I have a home I taught the secret of my solitude;

So it blessed that solitude, then became its emblem.

And the tangle of grapevines spread until I saw it

As curtains the shadows sang of time and again.

And trees surrounded it with all their tenderness,

Hiding it, however openly it appeared.

As though they had precious treasures within it,

Yet they are only my love for them, hidden away.

So, O birdbath, if you reveal our secret,

I will excuse you—how many birds have vied beside you!

And how can we stay hidden, while these

Jewels of yours rise, scattered in the air?

And the sun's eclipse came, yet she was denied

An excuse by the birds, as they alighted and flew.

And they began to gulp the water, drunk with love,

As drunken revelers gulped at the festival of spring.

They varied in size, of every hue—

Jewels, or like light that fluttered and surged.

And in their play they scattered the laughing water,

So they drove it mad, and it flew in sparks.

So, O sun, vanish or appear, for we

See that your blazing light was borrowed.

And hopes have united us in our mystic devotion,

Pouring radiance and fire into hearts.
