To my daughter, for whom I would give my life—it would gladden me
To my daughter I sacrifice myself for her happiness
if I could enrich her with the rest of my life:
If I could with the rest of my life sing for her

a wealth embodied in my love for her well-being
A song that represents my love for her grace
and in the imaginings of poems I sing.
And in the imaginations of poems I sing for her

To Safiyya, on her birthday, go my dreams:
To Safiyah my dreams on her birthday
wishes from my congratulations that she may nurture.
From my congratulations a comfort that may grow her

وليسَand not تعدis reckoned لهُfor it الدنياthe world بماwith what فيهاis in it
To her who is a treasure to me, one I hold sacred,
To her who is a treasure I sanctify
and the world, with all it holds, is no match for it.
The world cannot replace with what is in it

To her who never once grew proud of what she possessed
To her who has never been vain with what she owned
of talents; in praise and adoration,
Of talents praising and glorifying them

The minds sang for her and about her in ardour
as a lute sang of love in rapture.
As the oud sang passionately losing itself

To her who, when she shines forth, dispels anxiety
On her feast today, ask me, though I am far
and fills souls with tenderness and comfort.
The rays are a meaning from her meanings

On her birthday today, my solace—though she is far away—is this:
Indeed, rays of light are one of her meanings.
