Feast of Sacrifice, welcome as a feast!

You revive for us our old hope anew.

We have added to the sacrifice among us

What was once a unique treasure, left untouched.

These are its manifestations; how often they have played havoc with us

For ages, and how excessive their threats have been:

Hatred, loathsome envy, and all that

    Made illustrious peoples slaves.

O feast, we have indeed slaughtered them for guidance,

To honor the lofty, proud forefathers,

Those for whom slaughtering the sheep was a symbol,

And purification of the conscience was the feast.

They lived by their conduct, while we, though living,

Are dead if we disdain to lend them support.

Amid discord, he brought forth unity.

While they were hunter and hunted.

Sons of Islam, what you have inherited is honor—

Honor that, through you, shall gain still more hereafter.

No fortune awaits glory that is heedless,

Like a star, crushed if it were to move slowly.

So race toward the heights, and direct

The aspirations of guides who overcome barriers.

And always make the honored feast

A new triumph that spurs on another.
