وتنسىand you forget حسيناHusayn والحسينand Husayn كريمnoble
وتنسى حسينا والحسين كريم
They say, “Why do you extol Ali and his sister,
They say I have not visited Aliya and her sister
And forget Husayn, when Husayn is noble?”
And forget Hussein while Hussein is generous

فقلت فؤادى للثلاثة منزل

هما طُنُباه والحسين صميم
So I said: My heart is a home for the three;
So I said my heart has room for the three
Those two are its tent ropes, and Husayn its core.
They are my pleasure and Hussein is my essence

Three sources of my comfort and delight,
Three reasons for my delight and pleasure
My Giver blesses them and sustains them.
In them, my Giver blesses me and perpetuates

أبى لي قلب عادل ورحيم
If ever it occurs to me to favor one over another,
If I were to favor one over the others
A just and compassionate heart will not let me.
My fair and merciful heart would refuse

ويعطف قلبي ذو أب ويتيم
I love the world's little ones for their sake,
I love the little ones for their sake
And a child with a father and an orphan alike move my heart to tenderness.
And my heart is tender to the orphaned child

My two darling girls when they approach
Life gains radiance and bliss from her.
Give life and bounty to my living

Intelligence a young man would wish for as his adornment,
The boy’s wit I wish for is his adornment
And a handsome face that delights beholders.
His face brings joy to all who see his beauty

As for Ali, he is Christ in childhood:
As for Ali, he is youthful like Christ
Dignified and forbearing when the little ones are flighty.
Dignified, though the little ones make mischief

And before Husayn, no suckling infant had spoken,
Before Hussein spoke, he was breastfed
Nor had a weaned child attained the heights of eloquence.
And did not attain Ali's eloquence while an infant

When he babbles away, he is a poet;
When he babbles, he is a poet
And if he is earnest in what he says, he is a sage.
If he speaks seriously, then he is wise

A little garden sparrow—my Lord, protect him and keep him alive;
Little songbird of the Lord's garden, may He protect and maintain you
For You know well the heart You have created.
For you have created with a knowing heart
