1. قالوا نرى شعراءكم

    يتمرنون على قفاه

    They said, “We see your poets

    practicing on the back of his neck.”

  2. فأجبتهم لا تعجبوا

    هذا الكلام على هواه

    So I answered them, “Do not be surprised;

    this talk is to his liking.

  3. هو يعشق اللفظ الرقيـ

    ـق وإن جرحت به أباه

    He adores gentle wording,

    even if you wound his father with it.”
