قالواthey said فَروقُFaruq المُلكِof the realm دارُan abode مَخاوِفٍfears
قالوا فَروقُ المُلكِ دارُ مَخاوِفٍ
لاnot يَنقَضيceases لِنَزيلِهاfor its visitor وُسواسُanxious misgivings
لا يَنقَضي لِنَزيلِها وُسواسُ
They said: Faruq of the realm is an abode of fears.
They said the mansion of kingship is fraught with fear,
Its visitor's anxious misgivings never cease.
Foreboding never ceases for its dweller,
وَكِلابُهاand its dogs فيin مَأمَنٍa place of safety فَاِعجَبso marvel لَهاat it
وَكِلابُها في مَأمَنٍ فَاِعجَب لَها
أَمِنَwere safe الكِلابُthe dogs بِهاin it وَخافَand were afraid الناسُthe people
أَمِنَ الكِلابُ بِها وَخافَ الناسُ
And its dogs are safe—so marvel at it:
How strange that its dogs live in safety,
The dogs were safe there, and the people were afraid.
The dogs live in security, yet people are afraid.
