بَكَياthey both wept لِأَجلِbecause of خُروجِهِhis going out فيon زَورَةٍa visit
بَكَيا لِأَجلِ خُروجِهِ في زَورَةٍ
ياoh لَيتَif only شِعريmy knowing كَيفَhow يَومُthe day فِراقِهِhis parting
يا لَيتَ شِعري كَيفَ يَومُ فِراقِهِ
They both wept because he went out on a visit.
They wept for his departure on a false pretext
Oh, if only I knew what the day of his parting would be like!
Oh, how I wonder what his day of parting was like
لَوif كانَhe was يَسمَعُhe hears يَومَذاكَthat day بُكاهُماthe weeping of them both
لَو كانَ يَسمَعُ يَومَذاكَ بُكاهُما
رُدَّتwas restored إِلَيهِto him الروحُthe soul مِنout of إِشفاقِهِhis compassion
رُدَّت إِلَيهِ الروحُ مِن إِشفاقِهِ
Had he heard their weeping that day,
If only he had heard their weeping that day
his soul would have been restored to him out of his compassion.
His soul would have returned to him out of sympathy
