    The sweet Nile is Al-Kawthar,

And its green bank is Paradise.

Lush in its expanse and its scenery—

How splendid is Paradise, and how verdant!

    The overflowing, sacred sea,

Watering the people and what they planted,

And it is the loom for what they wore,

And the bestower of radiant cotton.

    لَم يُخلِ الوادِيَ مِن مَرعى

    It made kindness its law;

It has not left the valley without pasture.

So you see crop following crop,

And here crops are harvested, and here seeds are sown.

It flows, yet appears not to flow,

For the unhurried calm and dignity within it.

It pours down like a collapsing hill,

And clamors, so you think it roars.

Abyssinian in hue, like its neighbors,

From its source and its lake,

It dyed both banks with its brown hue,

A color like musk and ambergris.
