حتىso much so that لقدindeed صارتshe became حديثthe talk الحارةthe neighborhood
حتى لقد صارت حديث الحارة
وضحَكand laughed الجارthe male neighbor وسخرand scoffed الجارهthe female neighbor
وضحَك الجار وسخر الجاره
So much so that she became the talk of the neighborhood.
She's become the talk of the neighborhood
And the man next door laughed, and the woman next door scoffed.
The laughingstock of neighbors and the mockery of friends
كلهموall of them يُحسدهاenvy her بمالهاfor her wealth
كلهمو يُحسدها بمالها
ويتمنىand wishes حالهhis lot كحالهاlike her lot
ويتمنى حاله كحالها
All of them envy her for her wealth,
They all envy her money
And wish their lot were like hers.
And wish they were in her shoes
وهكذاand thus الأنفسsouls فيin ظلالهاtheir shadows
وهكذا الأنفس في ظلالها
And thus are souls in their shadows.
