يا ناثرا حكما في الناس بالغة
وفَّيتyou have done full justice to ركنpillar الهوىlove شرحاin explanation وتبياناand elucidation
وفَّيت ركن الهوى شرحا وتبيانا
O you who scatter profound maxims among the people,
O you who spread wisdom among the people with eloquence
You have done full justice to love's pillar, explaining and elucidating it.
You have fulfilled the cornerstone of passion with explanation and clarity
لكنbut أثرتyou stirred up علىover العشاقthe lovers عاصفةa storm
لكن أثرت على العشاق عاصفة
جرتbrought عليهمupon them منfrom التذكارremembrance أشجاناsorrows
جرت عليهم من التذكار أشجانا
But you have stirred up a storm over lovers,
But you have stirred up a storm upon the lovers
Which brought upon them sorrows born of remembrance.
Drawing from remembrance intense sorrows upon them
إنindeed البلابلthe nightingales ماwhenever تشدوsing يهيمis enraptured بهاby them
إن البلابل ما تشدو يهيم بها
قلبheart المحبthe lover فيجرىand so flows الدمعthe tears هتّاناin torrents
قلب المحب فيجرى الدمع هتّانا
Indeed, whenever the nightingales sing, they enrapture
Verily, when the nightingales sing, the heart of the lover is entranced by them
The lover's heart, and so tears flow in torrents.
And tears flow profusely from his eyes
