سلام الله لا أرضى سلامي

فكل تحية دون المقام

God's peace upon you; I am not content with my own greeting.

For every greeting falls short of your station.

وعين من رسول الله ترعى

وتحرس حامل الأمر الجُسام

And an eye from the Messenger of God keeps watch,

And guards the bearer of the mighty charge.

وتنَجد مقلة في الله يقظى

وتخلفها على أمم نيام

And aids an eye wakeful for God's sake,

And relieves it in watching over sleeping nations.

تقلَّب في ليال من خطوب

تركن المسلمين بلا سلام

He tossed and turned through nights of calamity

That left the Muslims without peace.

ومن عجبٍ قيامك في الليالي

وأنت الشمس في نظر الأنام

And wondrous is your keeping vigil at night,

While you are the sun in the eyes of humankind.

أحب خليفة الرحمن جهدي

وحب الله في حب الإمام

I love the caliph of the All-Merciful with all my strength,

And love of God lies in love of the imam.

وأجعل عصره عنوان شعري

وحسن العقد يظهر في النظام

And I make his era the title of my poetry,

And the necklace's beauty appears in its stringing.

فإن نفت الموانع فيه حظى

فليس بفائت حظ الكلام

For if obstacles have denied me my share in it,

Then the share of words will not be lost.

وقد يُرعى الغمام الأرض أذنا

وأين الأرض من سمع الغمام

And the cloud may lend the earth an ear,

Yet how far the earth is from the cloud's hearing!
