Go forth, O cross of compassion, into the field of battle,
O cross of gentleness, move slowly through the battlefield
And spread mercy and tenderness over it.
And spread mercy and tenderness over it
وَاِدخِلand enter عَلىin the face of المَوتِdeath الصُفوفَthe ranks مُواسِياًoffering solace

And enter the ranks in the face of death, offering solace,
And lead the ranks of death in consolation
And help humankind endure its pains.
And help ease the pains of mankind
وَاِلمُسand touch جِراحاتِthe wounds of البَرِيَّةِhumankind شافِياًas a healer
ماnot كُنتَyou were إِلّاbut لِلمَسيحِfor Christ بَناناfingers
And touch humanity's wounds as a healer;
And touch the wounds of humanity as a healer
You have been nothing but Christ's fingers.
For you were made only for the Messiah as a child

And when the furnace strikes the young with its fire,
And if the storm casts its fire upon the youth
Plunge through the fires to them, like God's Friend.
Plunge into it like Khalil, putting out the fires
وَاِجعَلand make وَسيلَتَكَyour means of intercession المَسيحَChrist وَأُمَّهُand his mother

And make Christ and his mother your intercessors,
And make the Messiah and His mother your means
And plead and beseech the All-Merciful for His creatures.
And plead and ask for mercy among His creation, the Merciful
اللَهُGod جارُكَyour protector فيin عَوانٍa fierce, recurring war لَمnot تَهَبrevere

لِلَّهِfor God's sake لاneither بِيَعاًchurches وَلاnor صُلباناcrosses
God is your protector in a fierce war that has spared
God is your ally in help that has not gone away
Neither churches nor crosses out of reverence for God.
There is neither sale nor crucifixion for God
وَسَلِمتَand may you be safe ياO حَرَمَsanctuary المَعارِكِof battles مِنfrom يَدٍa hand

And may you be safe, O sanctuary of battles, from a hand
And you are safe, O sanctuary of battles, from a hand
That has demolished the edifice of the world's peace.
That destroyed the pillar of the two worlds out of firmness
ياO أَهلَpeople of مِصرَEgypt رَمىcast القَضاءُfate بِلُطفِهِwith its kindness
وَأَرادَand willed أَمراًa thing بِالبِلادِfor the land فَكاناand so it came to be
O people of Egypt, fate has cast its favor upon you,
O people of Egypt, destiny has cast its kindness upon you
And willed a thing for the land, and it came to be.
And intended a matter in the country, so it was
إِنَّindeed الَّذيthe One who أَمرُthe affairs of المَمالِكِthe kingdoms كُلِّهاall of them

Indeed, He who holds the affairs of all kingdoms
Indeed, He who commands all the kingdoms
In His hands has brought a new state of affairs to Egypt, the Quiver.
With His hands has brought about a glorious event in the palace
أَبقىpreserved عَلَيهاfor it عَرشَهاits throne فيin بُرهَةٍa span of time

He has preserved its throne for it in a time
Keeping her throne safe for a while
That casts down thrones and scatters crowns.
As thrones are cast down and crowns scattered
وَكَساand clothed البِلادَthe land سَكينَةًtranquility مِنfrom أَهلِهاits people

And clothed the land in the calm of its people,
And He clothed the country in tranquility from its people
And protected His servants from strife and safeguarded them.
And protected the servants from trials and kept them safe

وَدِيارُand the lands of مِصرٍEgypt لاnot تَزالُcease to be جِناناgardens
Do you not see that half the earth has been laid waste,
Or do you not see the land, half of it ruined,
While the lands of Egypt are still gardens?
While Egypt's abodes remain gardens
يَرعىguards كَرامَتَهاits honor وَيَمنَعُand defends حَوضَهاits watering place

جَيشٌan army يَعافُshuns البَغيَoppression وَالعُدواناand aggression
Its honor is guarded and its watering place defended
An army guards its prestige and protects its basin
By an army that shuns oppression and aggression.
Shunning transgression and aggression
كَجُنودِlike the soldiers of عَمروٍAmr أَينَماwherever رَكَزواthey planted القَناthe spears

Like the soldiers of Amr, wherever they planted their spears,
Like Amr's soldiers, wherever they planted a spear
They restrained hand, Indian-steel sword, and spearpoint.
They pardoned with a hand and praiseworthy and sharp swords
إِنَّindeed الشُجاعَthe brave man هُوَhe is الجَبانُthe coward عَنِfrom الأَذىharm

وَأَرىand I deem الجَريءَthe bold man عَلىin committing الشُرورِevil deeds جَباناa coward
Indeed, the brave man is a coward when it comes to doing harm,
Indeed, the brave one is the cowardly from harm
And I deem the man bold in evil a coward.
And I see the bold upon evils as cowardly
أُمَمُnations of الحَضارَةِcivilization أَنتُمُyou آباؤُناour fathers

Nations of civilization, you are our fathers;
You are the nations of civilization, you are our fathers
From you we took knowledge and understanding.
From you we took knowledge and wisdom

Our hearts have grown tender toward you, as though
Our hearts softened for you as if
Your wounded on the day of battle were our wounded.
Your wound on the day of battle was our wound
وَمِنَand part of المُروءَةِchivalry وَهيَand it is حائِطُthe rampart of دينِناour faith

أَنto نَذكُرَwe remember الإِصلاحَreform وَالإِحساناand benevolence
And it is part of chivalry—the rampart of our faith—
And it is of chivalry, which is the wall of our faith
To remember reform and benevolence.
That we mention reform and benevolence
وَلَئِنand even if غَزاكُمattacked you مِنfrom ذَويناour own people مَعشَرٌa band

And even if a band of our own people has attacked you,
And if some of our people attacked you
For many brothers have [attacked] brothers.
There is many a brother who has consoled a brother
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen الشَحناءُenmity نامَتfell asleep بَينَهُمbetween them

Until, when enmity fell asleep between them,
Until when animosity slept between them
They knew neither hatred nor rancor.
They knew not resentments or grudges
