وَجَدتُI found الحَياةَlife طَريقَthe road of الزُمَرthe multitudes
إِلىto بَعثَةٍa resurrection وَشُؤونٍand affairs أُخَرother
I have found life to be the road of multitudes
To resurrection and other affairs.
وَماand not باطِلاًin vain يَنزِلُalight النازِلونthose who alight
وَلاnor عَبَثاًwithout purpose يُزمِعونَthey resolve upon السَفَرthe journey
And those who alight do not do so in vain,
Nor do they resolve upon the journey without purpose.
فَلاso do not تَحتَقِرdisdain عالَماًa world أَنتَyou فيهِin it
وَلاnor تَجحَدِdeny الآخَرَthe other world المُنتَظَرawaited
So do not disdain a world you dwell in,
Nor deny the other world that awaits.
وَخُذand take لَكَfor yourself زادَينِtwo provisions مِنfrom سيرَةٍconduct

And take two provisions for yourself: conduct,
And righteous work stored up.

And on the road, be pure in your steps,
Honorable in your listening, noble in your gaze.

And never be without work along the way,
You will live neither a slave nor despised.
وَكُنand be رَجُلاًa man إِنif أَتَواthey come بَعدَهُafter him

And be a man of whom, if others come after him,
They say, "He passed, and here is his trace."
