تالله تفتأ تزدري بمحمد

تالله تفتأ تزدري بمحمد

وتسبه وتريد أن لا يعتدي

وتسبه وتريد أن لا يعتدي

By God, you never cease scorning Muhammad,

By God, you never cease to show contempt for Muhammad,

and reviling him, wishing that God be worshipped no more.

And insult him, yet want him not to strike back.

مولاي خذ للصلح جانبه فما

مولاي خذ للصلح جانبه فما

تدري الذي تأتي الحوادث في غد

تدري الذي تأتي الحوادث في غد

My lord, take the side of forbearance, for you do not

My lord, win him over to peace, for you do not

know what events will bring tomorrow.

Know what events will bring tomorrow.

قد أتعب الأعداء من داراهم

قد أتعب الأعداء من داراهم

فأقم عدوّك بالليان وأقعد

فأقم عدوّك بالليان وأقعد

Whoever humors his enemies has worn them down;

Whoever has humored his enemies has worn them out;

so, through gentleness, make your enemy rise—and sit.

So make your enemy stand and sit through gentleness.

أن الأراقم لا يطاق لقاؤها

أن الأراقم لا يطاق لقاؤها

وتنال من خلف بأطراف اليد

وتنال من خلف بأطراف اليد

For vipers cannot be faced head-on,

For confronting speckled serpents is unbearable,

yet they can be seized from behind with the fingertips.

Yet they can be caught from behind with the fingertips.
