عجبت لهم قالوا سقطت ومن يكن

مكانك يأمن سقوط ويسلم

I marveled at them: they said, “You have fallen!” Yet whoever is

In your place is safe from falling and remains unharmed.

فأنت امرؤ ألصقت نفسك بالثرى

فأنت امرؤ ألصقت نفسك بالثرى

وحرمت خوف الذم ما لم يحرم

وحرمت خوف الذم ما لم يحرم

For you are a man who has pressed himself to the dust,

And, fearing blame, denied himself what was not forbidden.

فلو أسقطوا من حيث أنت زجاجة

فلو أسقطوا من حيث أنت زجاجة

على الصخر لم تصدع ولم تتحطم

على الصخر لم تصدع ولم تتحطم

So if they dropped a glass bottle from where you are,

Onto rock, it would neither crack nor shatter.
