You led the sons of the land astray with lines
You led the sons of the country astray with verses
That filled the hearts of the heedless with error.
You filled the hearts of the oblivious with misguidance

So turn away from deep ignorance, for seldom
So turn away from deep ignorance, for rarely
Does the ignorant man reap money from ignorance.
Does the ignorant reap any wealth from ignorance

We have indeed renounced your protection, turning to the one who
We are innocent of your protection, to Him who
Protects the lions and safeguards the cubs.
Protects the lions and keeps the cubs safe

You tried to kindle hatred in our hearts
You tried to stir up strife in our hearts
For the king of Egypt, but that was impossible.
For Egypt's king, but that was impossible

Then you took the young as armor to fight him;
Then you armed the youth for his war
And in your two cloaks they saw a treacherous man.
And they saw in your lies a vain narcissist

They cast you off and unsheathed their reed pen against you;
They dethroned you and turned to you for leadership
And if it failed to strike home, they unsheathed sandals against you.
But if trouble arose, they'd turn their backs
