بَينيbetween me وَبَينَand between أَبيAbu (father of) العَلاءِal-Ala (the name) قَضِيَّةٌa dispute
بَيني وَبَينَ أَبي العَلاءِ قَضِيَّةٌ
فيconcerning البِرِّfilial piety أَستَرعيI seek the attention of لَهاfor it الحُكَماءَthe wise
في البِرِّ أَستَرعي لَها الحُكَماءَ
Between me and Abu al-Ala there is a dispute;
Between me and my father Al-Ma'arri lies an issue
Concerning filial piety, I ask the wise to consider it.
In righteousness I seek the wise as judges
هُوَhe قَدhas رَأىregarded نُعمىthe kindness of أَبيهِhis father جِنايَةًa crime
هُوَ قَد رَأى نُعمى أَبيهِ جِنايَةً
وَأَرىand I regard الجِنايَةَthe crime مِنfrom أَبيmy father نَعماءَa blessing
وَأَرى الجِنايَةَ مِن أَبي نَعماءَ
He has regarded his father's kindness as a crime,
He sees his father's favor as a crime
And I regard my father's crime as a blessing.
While I see favor from my father as a blessing
