كعاشقين أطمأنا باللقا الهاني
And two flowers on a stem that bears them both,
Like two flowers on a slender branch
Like two lovers who found peace in a blissful meeting.
Swaying gently, like lovers at ease
لماwhen رأيتهماI saw them both فيin راحتيmy palm ذوتاthey both withered
لما رأيتهما في راحتي ذوتا

من فوق واه من الأعواد خوان
When I saw them, withered, in my palm,
When I saw them in my garden, wilting
Atop a frail, treacherous stem,
Above the water, slipping from their wooden perch

أيقنت أن منى العشاق ما جُمعت

إلا إلى مثل خيط العنكب الفاني
I knew that lovers' hopes were never bound together
I knew the fate of lovers cannot be joined
Except to something like a spider's perishable thread.
Except like a spider's ephemeral thread
