أشرق عباس على شعبه
كأنهas though he were المأمونal-Ma'mun فيin ركبهhis cavalcade
كأنه المأمون في ركبه
Abbas shone upon his people,
Abbas shone upon his people
As though he were al-Ma'mun amid his cavalcade.
As if he were Al-Ma'mun in his procession
زارvisited رعاياهhis subjects فأغناهمso he freed them from need
زار رعاياه فأغناهم
عنfrom زورةa visit الغيثthe rain وعنand from خصبهits bounty
عن زورة الغيث وعن خصبه
He visited his subjects and spared them the need
He visited his subjects and enriched them
For the rain's visit or its bounty.
Saving them from the futility of rain and fertility
واستبشرand rejoiced القطرthe country فأهلوهso its people فيin
واستبشر القطر فأهلوه في
أمنٍsafety مِنfrom العامthe year ومِنand from جدبهits drought
أمنٍ مِن العام ومِن جدبه
And the country rejoiced, its people
And the country rejoiced, greeting him in
Safe from the year and its drought.
The safety of the year and the drought
مرّبهمhe passed by them والأرضand the land فيin جنةparadise
مرّبهم والأرض في جنة
ربيعهاits spring يختالstruts منfrom عجبهits self-admiration
ربيعها يختال من عجبه
He passed by them, the land in paradise,
Passing by them, while the land was in a garden
Its spring strutting in self-admiration.
Whose spring was boastful in its beauty
فزادهاso he added to it طيباsweetness علىto طيبهاits sweetness
فزادها طيبا على طيبها
وزادهمand gave them more يسراprosperity فأهلاso welcome بهto him
وزادهم يسرا فأهلا به
So he added sweetness to its sweetness,
He added goodness to its goodness
And increased their prosperity—so welcome to him!
And eased their lives, so greetings to him
ماجتsurged دمنهوDamanhu بسكانهاwith its inhabitants
ماجت دمنهو بسكانها
وهزهاand stirred it الشوقlonging إلىfor قربهnearness to him
وهزها الشوق إلى قربه
Damanhu surged with its inhabitants,
Damnah shook with its inhabitants
And longing to be near him stirred it.
And yearning shook it to be near him
فأقبلتso it came تسعىhastening إلىto حضرةan august presence
فأقبلت تسعى إلى حضرة
ماnot إنemphatic particle لهاfor it فيin البرbenevolence منany (emphatic) مشبهpeer
ما إن لها في البر من مشبه
So it came hastening to an august presence
So it set out, striving to reach the presence
That has no peer in benevolence,
That has no equal on land
ترجوit hopes for قبولاacceptance علهاperhaps it may ترتوىit drinks its fill
ترجو قبولا علها ترتوى
منfrom موردa water source تهفوit yearns إلىfor عذبهits sweet water
من مورد تهفو إلى عذبه
Hoping for acceptance, that it might drink its fill
Hoping for acceptance, so it may quench its thirst
From a source whose sweet water it yearns for.
From a freshwater source it craves
ياO لابسwearer of التاجينthe two crowns عشlive سالماsafe and sound
يا لابس التاجين عش سالما
ترعاكwatches over you عينthe eye of اللهGod منfrom حجبهHis veils
ترعاك عين الله من حجبه
O wearer of the two crowns, live safe and sound,
O wearer of the two crowns, live in peace
May God's eye watch over you from behind His veils.
God's eye protects you from his veil
