  1. سألوا أمينا كيف يبكى الناى في

    يده ويستبكى الملا بشجونه

    They asked Amin how the flute weeps in

    his hand and moves the gathering to tears with its sorrowful strains.

  2. فأجاب خِلى لا عدمت وداده

    أبكى على عينى بكل عيونه

    Then my friend replied—may I never lose his affection—

    “I weep for my eyes with all its eyes.”
