    A gazelle passed by a she-ass,

    Who was kissing her weanling on the teeth.

    بِوُدِّها لَو حَمَلتهُ في الحَشا

    Behind the gazelle was her son, the fawn;

    She wished she could carry him in her womb.

    So she did to the lord of the little ones

    What the she-ass had done to her son, the donkey.

    Then the donkey hurried toward his mother,

    And came to her, his mouth full of laughter,

    Crying, 'O Mother, what has happened,

    That even the gazelle has made light of her son?'
