Lebanon, your glory in the eastern lands stands foremost,

وبنوك ألطف من نسيمك ظلهم

وأشم من هضباتك الأحلام

وأشم من هضباتك الأحلام

Your sons—their shade is gentler than your breeze,

Your sons' shade is gentler than your breeze,

And their forbearance stronger than your highlands.

And their minds are loftier than your hills.

أخرجتهم للعالمين حَجاحجِا

أخرجتهم للعالمين حَجاحجِا

عُربا وأبناء الكريم كرام

عُربا وأبناء الكريم كرام

You sent them forth among all peoples as proofs—

You brought them forth to the world as noble chiefs,

Arabs, noble sons of a noble sire.

Arabs—and the sons of the noble are noble.

بين الرياض وبين أفق زاهر

بين الرياض وبين أفق زاهر

طلع المسيح عليه والإسلام

طلع المسيح عليه والإسلام

Between gardens and a radiant horizon,

Between the gardens and a radiant horizon,

Christ and Islam dawned upon it.

Upon which Christ and Islam arose.

هذا أديبك يحتفى بوسامه

هذا أديبك يحتفى بوسامه

وبيانه للمشرقَين وسام

وبيانه للمشرقَين وسام

Here is your man of letters, rejoicing in his decoration,

Here is your man of letters, whose decoration is celebrated;

Though his eloquence is itself a medal for the two Easts.

And his eloquence is a decoration for the two Easts.

ويجل قدر قلادة في صدره

ويجل قدر قلادة في صدره

وله القلائد سمطها الإلهام

وله القلائد سمطها الإلهام

He exalts the worth of a decoration upon his breast,

And the worth of a necklace upon his breast grows greater,

Yet he has necklaces whose thread is inspiration:

And he has necklaces that inspiration has strung.

صدر حوالَيه الجلال وملؤه

صدر حوالَيه الجلال وملؤه

كرم وخشية مؤمن وذمام

كرم وخشية مؤمن وذمام

A breast embraced by majesty and filled with

A breast encircled by majesty, and filled with

Generosity, a believer’s reverence, and sacred honor.

Generosity, a believer's awe, and fidelity.

حلاّه إحسان الخديو وطالما

حلاّه إحسان الخديو وطالما

حلاه فضل الله والإنعام

حلاه فضل الله والإنعام

The Khedive’s beneficence adorned him—and how often

The Khedive's favor adorned it, and often

Have God’s grace and bounty adorned him.

God's grace and bounty have adorned it.

لعلاك يا مطران أم لنهاك أم

لعلاك يا مطران أم لنهاك أم

لخلالك التشريف والإكرام

لخلالك التشريف والإكرام

Is this for your eminence, O Mutran, or your wisdom, or

Is it for your eminence, O Mutran, or for your wisdom, or

For your virtues, that you receive such honor and esteem?

For your virtues, that this distinction and honor are bestowed?

أم للمواقف لم يقفها ضيغم

أم للمواقف لم يقفها ضيغم

لولاك لاضربت لها الأهرام

لولاك لاضربت لها الأهرام

Or for stands that no lion ever dared to take—

Or for stances no lion ever took,

Stands at which, but for you, the Pyramids would have trembled?

Without you, the Pyramids would have held back from them.

هذا مقام القول فيك ولم يزل

هذا مقام القول فيك ولم يزل

لك في الضمائر محفل ومقام

لك في الضمائر محفل ومقام

Here is the fitting place to speak of you, yet always

This is the occasion to speak of you; there has always been

Within hearts you have had an assembly and a place.

For you, within hearts, an assembly and a place of honor.

غالي بقيمتك الأمير محمد

غالي بقيمتك الأمير محمد

وسعى إليك يحفه الإعظام

وسعى إليك يحفه الإعظام

Prince Muhammad set your worth exceedingly high

Prince Muhammad set a high value on your worth,

And came to you, attended by reverence,

And made his way to you, surrounded by reverence,

في مجمع هز البيان لواءه

في مجمع هز البيان لواءه

بك فيه واعتزت بك الأقلام

بك فيه واعتزت بك الأقلام

In an assembly where eloquence raised its banner

At an assembly where eloquence waved its banner,

Through you, and pens took pride in you there.

Through you there, and the pens took pride in you.

ابن الملوك تلا الثناء مخلدا

ابن الملوك تلا الثناء مخلدا

هيهات يذهب للملوك كلام

هيهات يذهب للملوك كلام

A son of kings recited praise to make it deathless—

The son of kings recited praise, making it immortal;

Far be it from the words of kings to disappear.

Never shall the words of kings fade away!

فمن البشير لبعلبك وفتية

فمن البشير لبعلبك وفتية

منهم هنالك فرقد وغمام

منهم هنالك فرقد وغمام

Who, then, will carry the glad tidings to Baalbek and my young men,

Who, then, will bear glad tidings to Baalbek and the young men

Among whom, there, are a bright star and a rain cloud?

Among whom, there, are a northern star and a cloud?

بين المعرّة في الفخار وبينها

بين المعرّة في الفخار وبينها

نسب تضىء بنوره الأيام

نسب تضىء بنوره الأيام

Between al-Maʿarra, in her pride, and that city

Between Ma'arra and her, in glory,

Runs a kinship whose light illumines the days.

Is a kinship whose light makes the days shine.

يبلى الميكن الفخم ن آثارها

يبلى الميكن الفخم ن آثارها

يوما وآثار الخيل قيام

يوما وآثار الخيل قيام

What is firm and splendid among her monuments will one day decay,

The grand [unclear word] will decay [unclear fragment] her relics,

While the works of Khalil remain standing.

One day, while the horses' traces remain standing.
