A mule once came to the steed,
A mule approached the thoroughbred one day

you marveled at my dancing beneath my rider.
You wondered at my prancing stride

I strutted until people said,
I strutted as folk exclaimed aloud
'To which king does this steed belong?'"
To which monarch belongs this proud steed?

The horse laughed at his words,

and said with his customary coy charm:
And said as was typical of his vain

"I did not see the mule dance beneath the warrior,
I never saw the mule dance with pride
but I heard the tap of the spur."
Just heard the braying of an ass beside
