When Noah completed the ark,
When Noah completed the ark
and the aiding Power set it in motion,
And set it sailing by divine power

what no mind had imagined happened aboard it.
It underwent what minds could not conceive
No sooner had the waves towered like mountains
The waves rose up mountainous and tall

Until the lion walked with the donkey
and the cat took the mice by their hands,
And the cat took the rat's hand

and the elephant listened to the pig,
The elephant listened to the pig's squeal
finding comfort in its harsh voice,
Finding music in its jarring wail

So old grudges vanished,
So ancient hatreds were washed away
and friends appeared among foes.
And friends shone through enemies’ disguise
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen حَطّواthey alighted بِسَفحِat the foot of الجوديJudi
وَأَيقَنواand they became certain بِعَودَةِof the return of الوُجودِlife
Until, when they alighted at the foot of Mount Judi,
Until, the deluge ending, dry land appeared
and were certain that life had returned,
And all knew that life would reappear
عادواthey returned إِلىto ماwhat تَقتَضيهِrequires it الشيمَهthe disposition

they returned to what their nature demanded,
Then beasts remembered their true natures
and went back to their former state.
And returned to their previous ways
فَقِسso compare عَلىwith ذَلِكَthat أَحوالَthe affairs of البَشَرhumankind
إِنif شَمِلَencompassed all المَحذورُthe feared peril أَوor عَمَّbecame universal الخَطَرthe danger
So judge human affairs by this example:
Apply this to mankind when disaster strikes
if the dreaded peril encompasses all, or danger is universal,
Or calamity descends from the skies
بَيناwhile تَرىyou see العالَمَthe world فيin جِهادِstrife
إِذsuddenly كُلُّهُمall of them عَلىagainst الزَمانِTime العاديthe hostile
while you see the world in strife,
You’ll see the world locked in bitter war
suddenly they all stand together against hostile Time.
Though moments ago life was calm and fair
