    عَوَّذتُ مُلكَكَ بِالنَبِيِّ وَآلِهِ

    The kingdom stands before you in its prosperity;

    I sought protection for your kingdom through the Prophet and his family.

    سَمحٌ وَأَنتَ السَمحُ في أَقيالِهِ

    It is free, and you are the free one in its history;

    it is generous, and you the generous one among its kings.

    Pour freedom forth upon the homelands, both of you,

    for each of you has been freed from his shackles.

    A nation rejoiced in the blessed reign of you both,

    having pitied your plight for an age, and his.

    وَالمُنتَمي لِمُحَمَّدٍ بِهِلالِهِ

    Its Christian ransoms you with his cross,

    and Muhammad's adherent with his crescent;

    and the Druze youth on the rugged heights with his sheikh,

    and the Jew on the plains with his wealth.

    They were true to the caliph in obedience and love,

    and clung to the purity of his robe's hems.

    They see your reign, in which they have prospered,

    as coming from the Lord's mercy and His bounty.

    You renewed the age of the Rightly Guided with a way of rule

    woven by right guidance upon its own loom.

    It was founded on consultation, like their righteous rule,

    and on the vitality of opinion and its independence.

    وَالحَقُّ مَنصورٌ عَلى خُذّالِهِ

    A right whose triumph the Guardian has strengthened through you;

    and right is victorious over those who forsake it.

    The worst government is for one man to rule

    peoples in the kingdom as countless as its sands.

    A kingdom whose auspicious fortunes you share,

    and whose fair outcome you shall see, by God's leave.

    Your government secured safety for its gazelle

    from its lion in the desolate wilderness.

    You established the constitution within it and gained it

    as a crown for your brow above the crown of its majesty.

    Thus you are like al-Faruq upon his throne,

    beneath whose shade the peoples of the earth flourished.

    Or you are like Abu Turab, held in awe,

    whom kings fear even in his tattered clothes.

    The Prophet's covenant is tolerance and contentment,

    most fitting for Muhammad and his gracious character.

    The imam upholds it with truth and guidance,

    in the constitution's present and its future.

    O son of the thirty khagans who

    added beauty to Islam beyond its beauty,

    who brought the faith to the summit of its good fortune,

    and raised the kingdom to the height of its perfection,

    who made their horses tread in kingdoms

    that Alexander never managed to reach.

    In the justice of their Fatih and their Qanuni

    lies a model whose example caliphs follow.

    As for the caliphate, it is the wall of your house,

    until the Resurrection unveils its terrors.

    It was won with the edge of the Mashrafi sword, and secured

    for you by spears, short and long.

    Do not heed the alarmmongers and their ignorance,

    for Islam's affliction comes from its ignorant ones.

    The hope of one near or far to obtain it

    is a youth's hope of winning the impossible from his time.

    The wolf, daring to confront the lion of al-Shara,

    usually attacking its cubs,

    is no more foolish—while it rests in your right hands—

    than one who tries to seize it with his left.

    The Guardian, the Messiah, and Ahmad are pleased

    with your self-sacrificing army and its heroes,

    الدائِسينَ عَلى رُؤوسِ جِبالِهِ

    who scoff at the earth, with its plains,

    and tread upon the summits of its mountains;

    بِالرَأيِ وَالتَدبيرِ قَبلَ قِتالِهِ

    who slay their enemy in his fortress

    through judgment and planning before fighting him;

    مِثلَ السُها أَو في اِمتِناعِ مَنالِهِ

    who capture the fortress whose approach is difficult,

    like Suha—or like it in its inaccessibility;

    في الحَربِ عَن عِرضِ العَدُوِّ وَمالِهِ

    who turn away, even in the courtyard of Yildiz,

    in war, from the enemy's honor and wealth;

    who learned its art under Ali,

    and under the godfearing warriors, his men.

    كانوا لَهُ الأَوتادَ في زِلزالِهِ

    The kingdom was shaken in Furuq for an hour;

    they were its anchoring stakes amid its earthquake.

    Had their hearts not been united like their hands,

    I would have scattered my tears today among its ruins.

    And a man is not truthful in his speech

    until he confirms his words with his deeds.

    And a people, if it seeks a life of greatness,

    wades through depths of blood toward its hopes.

    The gratitude of kingdoms belongs to him who gives his soul,

    not to him who is lavish with his sayings or speech.

    Speak on, beautiful Furuq—these are a lovesick man's confidences,

    who rises toward you through his grandfather and maternal uncle.

    You brought forth his eloquence for the eloquent Arabs,

    a flame lighting the East like its Kamal.

    The Alhambra did not produce many of his peers

    as offspring, nor Baghdad many like him.

    God made his imagination the Qays of passion,

    and you were made Layla, a temptation to his imagination.

    Each year you are his spirit's delight,

    the bliss of his heart and the ease of his mind.

    He visits you, his mounts having yearned for you,

    and returns with longings filling his saddlebags.

    أَفراحُ يوسُفَ يَومَ حَلِّ عِقالِهِ

    His joys when he saw you unbound

    were Yusuf's joys the day his bonds were loosed;

    and his delight in you, free of your chains,

    was Qays's delight at the escape of his gazelle.

    God fashioned you as two gardens for His creation,

    surrounded with blessings for those in His care.

    If God were to have a leafy grove,

    He would choose no garden but you for His majesty.

    So it is as though the two qualities, in their beauty,

    were two brocade panels of a cheek proud of its beauty mark.

    And as though the Bosphorus were Muhammad's pool,

    amid the gardens, which hold it in reverence.

    حُجُراتُ طَهَ في الجِنانِ وَآلِهِ

    And as though the towering palaces facing it

    were the chambers of Taha and his family in the gardens;

    and as though your festival were theirs, when there walked

    among them the herald with his gladness and beauty.

    Glory in your festival among the kingdoms, and remain safe

    in peace for thousands of its like.

    And welcome the reign of Rashad, adorned

    with the beauties of the constitution at its dawning.

    شُلَّت يَدٌ مُدَّت إِلى إِقفالِهِ

    You are the Abode of Felicity; that is its gate;

    may the hand stretched out to close it be paralyzed.
