My beloved is a lover who hides from people that he

is our beloved when eyes take aim at us.

He keeps me at a distance when we meet, yet his heart—

though he shows me estrangement—is near.

And he turns away from me, while love turns toward me,

when he fears a watching eye or a watcher gives a sign.

So our tongues fall silent when we meet,

and our eyes and hearts speak.
