رَكِبتُI rode الصِباyouthful passion حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle وَنىwaned الصِباyouthful passion
رَكِبتُ الصِبا حَتّى إِذا ما وَنى الصِبا
نَزَلتُI alighted مِنَof التَقوىpiety بِأَكرَمِat the noblest مَنزِلِdwelling
نَزَلتُ مِنَ التَقوى بِأَكرَمِ مَنزِلِ
I rode youthful passion until, when youthful passion waned,
I rode my youth until when my youth declined
I alighted at the noblest dwelling of piety.
I dismounted in piety, at the noblest abode
وَدينُand the faith of الفَتىthe young man بَينَbetween التَنَسُّكِreligious devotion وَالنُّهىand reason
وَدينُ الفَتى بَينَ التَنَسُّكِ وَالنُّهى
وَدُنياand the worldly life of الفَتىthe young man بَينَbetween الصِباyouthful passion وَالتَغَزُّلِand composing love poetry
وَدُنيا الفَتى بَينَ الصِبا وَالتَغَزُّلِ
And a young man's faith lies between devotion and reason,
The religion of a young man is between asceticism and prohibition
And a young man's worldly life between youthful passion and love poetry.
And the world of a young man is between youthfulness and infatuation
