أَتَيتُكَI came to you لَمdid not أَطمَعhope إِلىtoward غَيرِother than مَطمَعٍa source of hope
أَتَيتُكَ لَم أَطمَع إِلى غَيرِ مَطمَعٍ
كَريمٍgenerous وَلَمand did not أَفزَعseek refuge إِلىto غَيرِother than مَفزَعِa refuge
كَريمٍ وَلَم أَفزَع إِلى غَيرِ مَفزَعِ
I came to you, seeking only a source of hope
I came to you, not coveting more than noble hopes,
that is generous, and turning only to a place of refuge.
Nor fleeing to any but you as refuge.
أَصَبتُI found مَكانَa place المَدحَpraise فيكَin you وَأَنتَand you قَدindeed
أَصَبتُ مَكانَ المَدحَ فيكَ وَأَنتَ قَد
أَصَبتَyou found مَكاناًa place لِلصَنيعَةِfor kindness فَاِصنَعِso bestow it
أَصَبتَ مَكاناً لِلصَنيعَةِ فَاِصنَعِ
I found in you a fitting place for praise, and you have indeed
I aimed at praising you, while you have aimed
found a fitting place for kindness—so bestow it.
At a place for favor - so show favor!
