رَدَّنيturned me away بِالذُلِّin humiliation حاجِبُهُhis doorkeeper
رَدَّني بِالذُلِّ حاجِبُهُ
إِذwhen رَأىhe saw أَنّيthat I أُطالِبُهُwas making a demand of him
إِذ رَأى أَنّي أُطالِبُهُ
His doorkeeper turned me away in humiliation,
His frown spurned me with contempt
When he saw that I was making a demand of him.
When he saw that I was suing him
لَيسَis not كَشخاناًa cuckold فَأَشتُمَهُso that I should curse him
لَيسَ كَشخاناً فَأَشتُمَهُ
إِنَّماonly الكَشخانُthe cuckold صاحِبُهُhis master
إِنَّما الكَشخانُ صاحِبُهُ
He is no cuckold that I should curse him;
He's no stubborn fool to vilify
The cuckold is his master alone.
The stubborn fool is but his lord
