دُموعٌtears فَيَضُهُنَّtheir flow مَعَwith الدِماءِblood
كَماas وَرَّدتَyou dyed rose-red حاشِيَةَthe hem of الرِداءِthe cloak
Tears—their flood mingled with blood,
Tears whose flow mingles with blood,
as they stained the robe’s hem rose-red.
As you dyed the cloak’s hem rose-red.
أُريحُI ease إِلىto الدُموعِtears الوَجدَanguish مِنّيwithin me
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle عَزَّنيeludes me حُسنُthe goodness of العَزاءِconsolation
I let the anguish within me find release in tears
I ease the anguish within me through tears,
whenever the grace of resignation proves beyond my strength.
When the grace of consolation eludes me.
مَلامَكَyour reproach لَيسَis not مِنfrom عَينَيكَyour two eyes دَمعيmy tears
وَلاnor بِحَشاكَin your breast أَسقاميmy ailments وَدائيand my malady
Your reproach is misplaced—my tears do not flow from your eyes,
Spare me your reproach: my tears are not from your eyes,
nor do my afflictions and my malady dwell within your heart.
Nor are my ailments and my malady in your breast.
