وَمُلاحِظٍand one casting glances سَرَقَstole السَلامَthe greeting بِطَرفِهِwith his eye
وَمُلاحِظٍ سَرَقَ السَلامَ بِطَرفِهِ
حَذَرَfor fear of العيونِprying eyes وَرِقبَةًand wariness لِلحارِسِof the guard
حَذَرَ العيونِ وَرِقبَةً لِلحارِسِ
And one casting glances stole a greeting with his eye,
for fear of prying eyes and wariness of the guard.
راجَعتُهُI answered him بِلِسانِwith the tongue of طرفٍa glance ناطِقٍspeaking
راجَعتُهُ بِلِسانِ طرفٍ ناطِقٍ
يُخفيconceals البَيانَthe message عَلىfrom الرَقيبِthe watcher الجالِسِseated
يُخفي البَيانَ عَلى الرَقيبِ الجالِسِ
I answered him with the tongue of a speaking glance,
concealing its message from the seated watcher.
فَتَكَلَّمَتthus spoke مِنّاfrom us الضَمائِرُthe innermost thoughts بِالَّذيof what
فَتَكَلَّمَت مِنّا الضَمائِرُ بِالَّذي
نُخفيwe conceal وَفازَand succeeded مُجالِسٌa companion بِمَجالِسِthrough gatherings
نُخفي وَفازَ مُجالِسٌ بِمَجالِسِ
Thus our innermost thoughts spoke of what
we conceal, and a companion found success through gatherings.
