شَكَرتُI thanked عَلِيّاًAli بِرَّهُhis kindness وَبَلاءَهُand his benefactions
شَكَرتُ عَلِيّاً بِرَّهُ وَبَلاءَهُ
فَقَصَّرَso fell short بيfor me شُكريmy thanks وَإِنّيalthough indeed I لَواجِدُindeed possessed of means
فَقَصَّرَ بي شُكري وَإِنّي لَواجِدُ
I thanked Ali for his kindness and his benefactions;
yet my thanks fell short, though I am a man of means.
وَماand not أَناI فيin شُكريmy thanking عَلِيّاًAli بِواحِدٍalone
وَما أَنا في شُكري عَلِيّاً بِواحِدٍ
وَلَكِنَّهُbut he فيin الفَضلِexcellence وَالجودِand generosity واحِدُpeerless
وَلَكِنَّهُ في الفَضلِ وَالجودِ واحِدُ
I am not alone in thanking Ali,
but he is peerless in excellence and generosity.
