O Abu al-Saqr, may a blessing from God never cease,

renewed for you by the days and time.

And may festivals keep passing and ending,

while your radiant, shining days remain for us.

For you are the world's beauty and adornment,

and for noble men you are a treasure—the very treasure.

I found all gifts beneath his worth,

and nothing has any worth beside his stature.

For no bounty exists but comes from the bounty of his generosity,

and no kindness exists but that kindness falls short of him.

So I offered jewels from the ornaments of praise,

blade-tipped, in which verse and prose take pride:

praises that remain after time has run out,

and with which the days grow radiant as long as life endures.

I thanked Ismail for his gracious favors,

and the best recompense for favors is gratitude.
