وَزائِرَةٍand a female visitor جاءَتcame وَلَوand had جاءَcome رَبُّهاher master
غَنيناwe would have been content بِهِwith him عَنهاwithout her وَعَنand without نَفحَةِa fragrant breath of الوَردِthe roses
And a visitor came; had her master come,
A visitor came, though if her Lord came
he would have sufficed us, without her or the breath of roses.
We'd be content without her or the scent of roses.
حَكىmirrored نَشرُهاher fragrance مِنهُfrom him خَلائِقَqualities نَشرِهاher fragrance
كَنَشرِlike the wafting of نَسيمِthe breeze of الريحِthe wind مِنfrom جَنَّةَthe garden of الخُلدِeternity
Her fragrance mirrored his qualities—her fragrance
The tale of her smile spreads from her like the smiles
like the wafting of the wind’s breeze from the Garden of Eternity.
Of a heavenly breeze from the eternal garden.
وَشَبَّهتُهاand I likened her فيin صَفوِهاher purity بِصَفائِهِto his sincerity
لِإِخوانِهِtoward his brethren فيin القُربِnearness مِنهُto him وَفيand in البُعدِdistance
And I likened her purity to his sincerity
In her purity I compared her to his purity
toward his brethren, whether near him or far away.
For his brothers, both near and far.
وَأَهدىand brought as a gift لَناto us مِنهُfrom him النسيمَthe breeze نَسيمُهاher breeze
وَإِنand although كانَhe is إِنif حالَتshe changes يَدومُhe remains عَلىtrue to العَهدِthe pledge
And her breeze brought us a breeze from him as a gift,
And he sent us from himself her breeze, her breeze,
though, should she change, he remains true to his pledge.
And though if she leaves, it will last as pledged.
