مِنamong سُنَّةِthe custom الأَملاكِthe kings فيماin what مَضىhas passed
مِنof سالِفِbygone الدَهرِtime وَإِقبالِهِand its good fortune
Among the customs of kings in days gone by,
It was the custom of angels in days gone by
In bygone ages and times of good fortune,
In ancient times and their prosperity
هَدِيَّةُa gift العَبدِthe servant إِلىto رَبِّهِhis lord
فيin جِدَّةَthe newness الدَهرِtime وَأَحوالِهِand its states
Was a servant's gift to his lord,
For a servant to give a gift to his Lord
At time's renewal and through its changing states.
In the newness of time and its circumstances
فَقُلتُso I said ماwhat أهديshall I offer إِلىto سَيِّديmy master
حاليmy means وَماand what خُوِّلتُI was granted مِنfrom حالِهِhis means
So I said: What shall I offer my master?
So I said what can I give to my Master
My means and all I have been granted come from his means.
In my state and what I have been granted of it
إِنif أُهدِI offer نَفسيmyself مِنfrom نَفسِهِhis own self
أَوor أُهدِI offer ماليmy wealth فَهوَthen it is مَنfrom مالِهِhis wealth
If I offer myself, I come from his own self;
If I give myself it is from His own self
Or if I offer my wealth, it comes from his wealth.
Or if I give my wealth it is from His wealth

So there is nothing but praise, gratitude, and the
So there is nothing left but praise and thanks and
Panegyric that endures for those like him.
Eulogy which remains for the likes of Him
