كَيفَ شُكري بَني عَلِيّ بن يَحيى
وَهُمُand they فَوقَabove كُلِّall شُكرٍthanks وَحَمدِand praise
وَهُمُ فَوقَ كُلِّ شُكرٍ وَحَمدِ
How can I thank the sons of Ali ibn Yahya,
How can I thank Bani Ali ibn Yahya
when they are beyond all thanks and praise?
When they are above all thanks and praise
وَهُمُand they الزادُthe provision وَالعتادُand the equipment وَمَنand those who أَوput forth… (split verb)
وَهُمُ الزادُ وَالعتادُ وَمَن أَو
رَقَ…leaves (completes split verb) عوديmy bough بِهِمthrough them وَأَثقَبَand kindled زِنديmy fire-stick
رَقَ عودي بِهِم وَأَثقَبَ زِندي
And they are my provision and equipment, and those through whom
They are my provision, equipment and those who
my bough has put forth leaves and my fire-stick has kindled.
Made my stake lighter and weighed down my burden
وَهُمُand they فيin الحَياةِlife فَيئيmy shade وَجاهيand my standing
وَهُمُ في الحَياةِ فَيئي وَجاهي
وَهُمُand they إِرثُthe inheritance of مَنthose whom أُخَلِّفُI leave behind بعديafter me
وَهُمُ إِرثُ مَن أُخَلِّفُ بعدي
And in life they are my shade and my standing,
They are in life my booty and position
and they are the inheritance of those I leave behind.
They are the inheritance I leave behind me
