Hewn on both sides, unfailing in her night voyage,
With flanks all bruised, sincere companion
She keeps watch in the rider's stead for what he does not watch.
She watches what the rider does not watch

The people's souls almost race as she races,
The people's souls nearly course their course
When she battles whatever she battles of its waves.
When she overcomes the wave she overwhelms

She drives the water's foam away from her sides,
She blocks the bubbles from her sides
When the sea's mounts roam among the ships.
When ships sail on the stormy sea
