لا تَشتَكي الأَينَ مِن حلٍّ وَمِن رحَلِ
Toward Abu Ahmad I urged a mount onward,
To my father Ahmad I made a she-camel
That complains of no weariness from halting or traveling.
That does not complain of a halt or departure

It travels by night over a sea of clashing waves—you would think it
She flows with the collision of waves taking it
A mountain rising above a mountain, so fearsome is it.
For its awe, a mountain towering over a mountain

As though its rider, when he pressed on in travel,
As if her rider when traveling fast
Borne by its motion, were at rest, not traveling.
Is still with her travel, not traveling

Its bridle is in the sailor's hand at the rear,
Her reins in the sailor’s hand from behind
Correcting its swerving and veering at the front.
Straightening her swerves and leanings

Its driver kept moving at an unhurried pace,
Her driver kept going slowly
At a speed outstripping the utmost efforts of horses and camels,
At a pace outpacing the horses and camels

The world's pursued hope overlooking wishes
