إذا أقبلت دنياك يوماً على امرئٍ

كسَته ولم يشعر محاسن غيرهِ

When your worldly fortune turns toward a man one day,

If one day your world turns to a man

it clothes him, without his knowing, in another's virtues.

Adorning him, though he's unaware of others' virtues

وإن أدبرتْ سلبتْ محاسن نفسه

وإن أدبرتْ سلبتْ محاسن نفسه

وكُسى شروراً عن ملابس خيرهِ

وكُسى شروراً عن ملابس خيرهِ

And if it turns away, it strips him of his own virtues,

And if it turns away, it strips his own virtues

and he is clothed in evils instead of the garments of his goodness.

And clothes him in the evils beneath his goodness
