عجبت للشمس إذ حلَّت مؤثِّرةً

في جبهةٍ لم أخلها قطُّ في البشرِ
I marvelled at the sun when she alighted, leaving her mark,
I wondered at the sun when it shone impressively
On a brow I had never imagined among mortals.
On a brow I had never seen devoid of people

مختصَّةٌ في ذرى الأفلاك بالقمرِ
And the radiant brow is but a dwelling
For that shining brow is a dwelling
Reserved, in the heights of the celestial spheres, for the moon.
Particularly assigned among the stars' orbits to the moon

I had not thought that the sun loved him
I did not think the sun loved it
Until I discerned in her the sharpness of her gaze.
Until I saw in it the intensity of its gaze
