شرفت نظمك يا شريف بمدح من
فيهin whom تشرفare ennobled محكمfinely wrought الآياتthe verses
فيه تشرف محكم الآيات
You ennobled your verse, O Sharif, by praising one
in whom the finely wrought verses find honor.
فغدوتso you became فيهthrough it سيدmaster الشعراءthe poets قاfirst part of «قاطبةً» (all)
فغدوت فيه سيد الشعراء قا
طبةًlast part of «قاطبةً» (all) وقائدهمand their guide إلىto الجناتthe gardens of Paradise
طبةً وقائدهم إلى الجنات
Through that praise you became master of the poets, every
one of them, and their guide to the gardens of Paradise.
وغداand became قريضكyour poetry سيداًmaster لقريضهمof their poetry
وغدا قريضك سيداً لقريضهم
إذاwhen كنتyou were مادحone who praises سيدmaster الساداتof the masters
إذا كنت مادح سيد السادات
And your poetry became master of theirs
when you praised the master of masters.
