The Khedive's retinue arrived, and Egypt grew resplendent.

And the radiant stars found comfort in his light.

And indeed her adornment soared at the festival of his return,

As though the sun and full moon were part of her radiance.

And this is no wonder, since she was honored

By him whose light made time rejoice.

And long had Egypt lamented, while she bore

Heat in her air from the fire of longing for him.

But his honoring visit brought her joy

That dispelled a longing whose pangs the port had lamented.

And Egypt is envied by every town in the land

For his residence there, yet gratitude is her way.

For he is the sun, as his virtues have spread everywhere,

So the land is not deprived of his light.

How gracious and noble he is! He tends his subjects

With every measure that brings support and victory.

His virtues in the universe are exalted beyond compare,

So neither verse nor prose can encompass them.

And how can his eulogist capture this excellence?

And can the waters of seas ever be fully reckoned?

    وَصل مُبتَهِجاً في ظله العَصر

    All wishes have indeed bowed before his majesty;

The age arrived rejoicing in his shade.

So may God preserve him for us through all time,

And may his radiant days rise in honor.

And may Egypt rejoice in the joy she has gained,

And may radiance, good fortune, and gladness endure within her.

And may she rise in glory through the mighty one's honoring visit to her,

And may pride endure with his return throughout his days.

And the return is more praiseworthy, and the glad tidings are dated:

The Khedive returned, and companionship grew sweet, O Egypt.
