أَرىI see البَدرthe full moon فيin أُفقthe horizon of المَسَرةjoy قَدindeed بَداhas appeared
أَرى البَدر في أُفق المَسَرة قَد بَدا
وَكَمand how often بِالتَهانيthrough congratulations حازَhe won أَكبرthe greatest تَمجيدpraise
وَكَم بِالتَهاني حازَ أَكبر تَمجيد
I see the full moon—on joy’s horizon it has risen.
I see the full moon has appeared on the horizon of joy.
And how, amid congratulations, he has won the highest acclaim!
And how often, through congratulations, he has won the highest praise!
فَأَنعمso how excellent بِهِwith him مَولودa newborn شَهمnoble-hearted معظمrevered
فَأَنعم بِهِ مَولود شَهم معظم
بِمَجدwith glory أَثيلdeep-rooted فيamong الخَلائقhumankind مَشهودacknowledged
بِمَجد أَثيل في الخَلائق مَشهود
How splendid a newborn he is—noble and revered,
So how splendid he is—a noble-hearted, revered newborn!
of deep-rooted glory, renowned among all creation.
With deep-rooted glory, acknowledged among humankind.
بِطَلعةwith the appearance of هَذاthis النجارal-Najjar يَحظىhe is favored لَهُfor him المُنىwishes
بِطَلعة هَذا النجار يَحظى لَهُ المُنى
وَبُشراهand his glad tidings مِنfrom ذاthis الدَهرage أَنجزmost fully fulfilled مَوعودa promise
وَبُشراه مِن ذا الدَهر أَنجز مَوعود
With the advent of this al-Najjār, his hopes find favor,
With this al-Najjar's appearance, his wishes are fulfilled.
and the glad news this age brings him is a promise most surely fulfilled.
And his glad tidings from this age are a promise most fully kept.
وَفيand in العزhonor قَدindeed أَنشَأَhe composed لِهَناءfor celebration مُؤرِخاًrecording the date
وَفي العز قَد أَنشَأَ لِهَناء مُؤرِخاً
وَفيand in خَيرthe finest صَفوunclouded bliss يَومthe day of مَولدthe birth of مَحمودMahmoud
وَفي خَير صَفو يَوم مَولد مَحمود
And amid glory he composed, as a chronogram for his joy:
And in honor he has composed a chronogram for celebration:
“And the day of Mahmud’s birth is one of purest serenity.”
And the day of Mahmoud's birth is amid the purest bliss.
