In the month of Muharram, joy arrived,

In the month of Muharram, joy arrived,

Bearing goodness: a noble girl, the age’s radiant crown.

With the finest noble girl, a radiant brow for the age.

زَها بِالانس مَولدها إِلَيكُم

زَها بِالانس مَولدها إِلَيكُم

وَلاحَت في نَظام المَجد دره

وَلاحَت في نَظام المَجد دره

Her birth shone with delight among you,

Her birth shone with gladness for you,

And she gleamed—a pearl in glory’s necklace.

And a pearl gleamed in the necklace of glory.

وَطالع سَعدها قد قالَ أَرح

وَطالع سَعدها قد قالَ أَرح

بِفاطمة زَهَت أَزكي المَسَره

بِفاطمة زَهَت أَزكي المَسَره

Her fortune’s ascendant said: “Mark the year—

And the ascendant of her good fortune has said, “Bring relief!”

With Fatima, the purest joy has blossomed.”
