مع ما قلته ويحذو المثالا

Their soul, not lost in vanity
إنماonly تبتغيyou seek بمالكwith your wealth علماًknowledge
إنما تبتغي بمالك علماً
تبلغyou attain المجدglory عندهthrough it والكمالاand perfection
تبلغ المجد عنده والكمالا
With your wealth you seek only knowledge,
You only seek knowledge through your wealth
through which you attain glory and perfection.
To attain glory and perfection through it
فاشتهرso become renowned باليراعthrough the reed pen إنكindeed you كافone who spares
فاشتهر باليراع إنك كاف
مصرEgypt أنto تشهرit brandishes القناthe spears والنصالاand the blades
مصر أن تشهر القنا والنصالا
So win renown through the reed pen, for you spare
Become renowned for valor, you are able
Egypt the need to brandish spears and blades.
To unsheathe the spear and sword for Egypt
إنماonly يؤثرmakes an impact اليراعthe reed pen قديراًmighty
إنما يؤثر اليراع قديراً
شهدhas witnessed الحربwar وابتلىand put to the test الأبطالاthe heroes
شهد الحرب وابتلى الأبطالا
Only a mighty reed pen can make its mark,
Only valor makes the brave man noble
one that has witnessed war and put heroes to the test.
Tested in war and among heroes
أنتyou كابنlike Ibn المعتزal-Muʿtazz فضلاًin merit وآداand literary learning (word begins)
أنت كابن المعتز فضلاً وآدا
باًliterary learning (word ends) وهارونand Harun همةin resolve ونوالاand bounty
باً وهارون همة ونوالا
You are like Ibn al-Muʿtazz in merit and literary
You are like Ibn al-Mu'tazz in merit and manners
learning, and Harun in resolve and bounty.
And like Harun in determination and generosity
طارفnewly acquired glory يلتقيmeets بخيرwith the finest of تليدinherited glory
طارف يلتقي بخير تليد
ومنارand a beacon يعلوrises above عماداًpillars طوالاlofty
ومنار يعلو عماداً طوالا
New glory meeting the finest of the old,
A fresh stream that meets goodness everlasting
and a beacon rising above lofty pillars.
