O you who granted me affection despite your advanced age,

until my standing drew close to yours.

My eyes turned away from your palace,

after your passing, out of indifference, toward your grave.

How often pains raged within your breast,

yet you kept silent, intent on guarding your secret

from one who gloats, rejoicing in your suffering.

May God reward you for your patience.

How often, in your affairs, awe repelled

a challenger eager to overpower you.

So he imagined what he feared was in your mind,

and awaited swift harm from you,

though you had never known evil in your life.
