يا شاعر البلد الأمين تحية
يدليoffers إليكto you بهاwith it الرفيقthe companion الذاكرُmindful
يدلي إليك بها الرفيق الذاكرُ
O poet of the secure land, a greeting,
O poet of the faithful homeland, greetings
Offered to you by your mindful companion,
Brought to you by the remembering comrade
ومؤلفand the gatherer of الأنصارthe supporters ترجوهمyou look to them إذاwhen
ومؤلف الأنصار ترجوهم إذا
فقدlacks النصيرa champion علىagainst اللياليthe nights شاعرa poet
فقد النصير على الليالي شاعر
And the gatherer of supporters you look to when
And the composer of helpers, ask them when
A poet lacks a champion against the nights.
The ally is missed during the nights, o poet
وفَّتْكhas paid you in full أجرَكyour reward أمةٌa nation أرضيتَهاyou have pleased it
وفَّتْك أجرَك أمةٌ أرضيتَها
واليومand today وفاكhas rewarded you fully الوزيرthe minister الكابرeminent
واليوم وفاك الوزير الكابر
A nation you have pleased has paid you your due,
Your reward has been granted by a nation you pleased
And today the eminent minister has rewarded you in full.
And today your loyalty is reciprocated by the great minister
نعمىa boon علىupon الشعراءthe poets عباسيةAbbasid
نعمى على الشعراء عباسية
أفضىled إليهاto it فضلكyour merit المتواترever-recurring
أفضى إليها فضلك المتواتر
An Abbasid boon bestowed upon poets,
The Abbasid dynasty's favor upon poets
Brought about by your ever-renewed merit.
Discloses your continuous merit
إنindeed الأحقَّthe most deserving بمنصبٍof an office وبرتبةٍand of a rank
إن الأحقَّ بمنصبٍ وبرتبةٍ
فيin كلevery قطرland ناظمa poet أوor ناثرa prose writer
في كل قطر ناظم أو ناثر
Indeed, the most deserving of office and rank
The most deserving of any position and rank
In every land is a poet or a prose writer.
In every region is a composer or prose writer
