O nation of faith, the final outcome is yours

in every place of turmoil and every place of rest.

The days have wronged you; then claim redress

for your nationhood with your iron and fire.

And judge for yourselves, for you have no need

of any witnesses or decrees of fate.

And both Easts were reached by what was sanctioned

for both shores by the justice of nations.

And you defeated the battle-ready foe, and this

is surely a defeat for his hidden supporter.

And you turned those who had gloated over you

for a time to admiration and esteem.

It is enough for the victor that his enemies become

a band of helpers and supporters.

Is there any matter in the world today besides what

you have sent flying in splendid tidings?

Your warning filled the cities and frontier towns,

as once it had filled ears and eyes.

And after your enemy's terms, you won

the terms of one proud of his might, free to choose.

through which you exacted long-standing vengeance.

for sanctity, dignity, and all he must defend.

The excuse of one surrendering to you after his calamity

is that of one submitting to fate as it takes its course.

The dismissed commander, racing ahead of

his troops toward defeat and flight,

is no more abased than that fleeing man, who suffers

a wound worse than death and captivity.

Be gentle with one sick at heart; grief has taken its toll

on him and drawn near the seat of secrets.

And it has twisted the road to his aims; nothing

can dispel it but the vast host.

So restore my health through victory, for your sake,

that I may worthily commemorate these deeds.

what I hope for my kin and my homeland.

the goal of free men for which I strive.
