ياO عينAin (eye) شمسٍShams (sun) إنindeed أفضلthe finest ماwhat بنىbuilt
يا عين شمسٍ إن أفضل ما بنى
فيin ساحِكyour grounds البانونthe builders هذاthis المسجدُthe mosque
في ساحِك البانون هذا المسجدُ
O Ain Shams, indeed the finest thing built
O sun's eye, the best of what the ladies built
within your grounds by the builders is this mosque.
In your field is this mosque,
بينamong الحدائقthe gardens والبروجand the towers أقامهerected it
بين الحدائق والبروج أقامه
متجملونmen doing honor لذيto one possessed of جميلgoodness يحمدthat is praised
متجملون لذي جميل يحمد
Amid gardens and towers, it was raised
Between gardens and towers they erected it
by men doing honor to one whose goodness is praised.
Adorned for the One of beautiful praise
نعمىa blessing لهمfor them قدindeed سايرتهاkept pace with it عندهمamong them
نعمى لهم قد سايرتها عندهم
نعمىa blessing لهfor him ويدand a hand تسابقهاvies with it يدa hand
نعمى له ويد تسابقها يد
A blessing for them, matched among them
Blessings accompanied them at their hands
by a blessing for him, as hand vies with hand.
Blessings for Him and hands racing hands
زلفيa devotional offering إلىto اللّهGod انتهتreached وهديةand a gift
زلفي إلى اللّه انتهت وهدية
عظمىsupreme تناولهاreceived it النبيthe Prophet محمدMuhammad
عظمى تناولها النبي محمد
A devotional offering that reached God, and a gift
My devotion to God ended and a great gift
of supreme worth, received by the Prophet Muhammad.

أغنىthe richest العبادGod's servants المتقيthe God-fearing وأجلand the noblest منthose who
أغنى العباد المتقي وأجل من
سكنdwelt in القصورthe palaces الموسرthe wealthy man المتعبدthe devout worshipper
سكن القصور الموسر المتعبد
The richest of God's servants is the God-fearing, and the noblest of those
The richest of devoted worshippers and greatest of those
who dwell in palaces is the wealthy worshipper.
Who settled in adorned palaces
منwhoever كانused to يذكرremember ربهhis Lord فيin موحشdesolate
من كان يذكر ربه في موحش
قفرa wasteland رأىsaw فيهin it الملائكthe angels تحشدgathering
قفر رأى فيه الملائك تحشد
Whoever remembered his Lord in a desolate
Whoever mentions his Lord in a desolate
wasteland saw the angels gathering there.
Desert sees angels gathering there
فيin ذمةthe protection of الإسلامIslam منwhoever يدعىis invited ومنand whoever
في ذمة الإسلام من يدعى ومن
يزجىis brought إلىto ذاthis المهرجانthe festival ويوفدand is sent as a delegate
يزجى إلى ذا المهرجان ويوفد
Under Islam's protection are those invited and those
In Islam's protection whoever is called and
brought to this festival and sent as delegates.
Sent to this festival and dispatched
شهدواthey witnessed طلوعthe rising of الشمسthe sun بعدafter أفولهاits setting
شهدوا طلوع الشمس بعد أفولها
وعمارand the habitation of نائيةa far-off place المدىin distance ويتجددand it is renewed
وعمار نائية المدى ويتجدد
They witnessed the sun's rising after its setting,
They witnessed the sun rise after its setting
and habitation renewed in a far-distant place.
And remote lands rebuilt and renew
وتنافسand vied الخطباءthe orators فيin إعلانproclaiming ماwhat
وتنافس الخطباء في إعلان ما
يرجوhopes لمصرfor Egypt مثلثa Trinitarian وموحدand a monotheist
يرجو لمصر مثلث وموحد
And the orators vied in proclaiming what
The preachers compete in proclaiming what they hope
Trinitarian and monotheist alike hope for Egypt.
For Egypt, triangular and unified
منwhoever كانused to يتهمaccuse البرىءthe innocent فقدso indeed محاerased
من كان يتهم البرىء فقد محا
تُهَمَthe charges against البلادthe land نزيلهاits guest المتوددshowing goodwill
تُهَمَ البلاد نزيلها المتودد
If anyone once accused the innocent, now erased
Whoever accuses the innocent has erased
are the charges against the land, by its friendly guest.
